Election -here & there

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm writing this even as the TV shows Herman Cain as leading in polls as the Republican nominee for the Y2012 US elections, outpolling the other two prominant candidates Mitt Romney & Rick Perry. It is true that the polls keep changing on a weekly (if not daily) basis, and this guy could as well be dismissed as a mere'flavor of the week'. And have no doubt, Herman Cain doesn't have any clues about the economic recovery either -much like any other Republican nominees or the Democratic candidate President Obama.

What impressed me about Herman Cain's lead in polls -however temporary it might be- is that he is an African-American (who prefers the term 'Black American' to African-American though). It is hard to imagine a black Republican candidate, as the whites I've known were all supporting McCain in last elections against Obama, giving out an impression of 'white-to-white' preference. Herman Cain disproved it. The Americans changed history in Y2008 by proudly electing the nation's first black president; and who knows -this guy who calls himself the 'black walnut' could as well repeat it!

And look what is happening in TN right now. Today is a bye-election in Tiruchy, and who is DMK's proud candidate? The same guy who the people rejected hardly six months ago in the same constituency! The same guy whose brother's bus was 'transporting' in his bus some Rs.4 Cr of cash during the last election. The same guy who is facing numerous land grab cases now, and has just been releaseed in bail. Apparently, there was no voice condemning DMK's nomination of this guy, who was, after all, rejected by the people not long ago. Is it not an insult to the Tiruchy people? or to the police/judiciary that are investigating the land grab cases? தமிழ் கூறும் நல்லுலகம்!
